The PhD Program in Biotechnology - Northeast Network of Biotechnology (RENORBIO) is a network formed by teaching and research institutions from all states of the Brazil´s Northeast Region and the state of Espírito Santo, adding around 200 researchers working in the different areas of Biotechnology.

The first formal measure to integrate the Northeast Region for Biotechnology occurred in August 2003, when the Protocol of Cooperation between the Secretaries of Science and Technology of the Northeast States was signed, giving full support to the Northeast Network of Biotechnology - RENORBIO. Subsequently, in 2004, the Northeast Network of Biotechnology - RENORBIO was created, through MCT Regulation No. 598, of November 26, 2004, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on November 30, 2004, Section I, p. 16, defining its structure and operational mechanism within the MCT (current MCTIC).

Objectives

The main focus of RENORBIO is training of researchers, at a doctoral level, with a solid technical-scientific base, capable of work in different markets, such as teaching, research, service rendering and industry.

In this way its specific objectives are:

- Training of qualified personnel for the exercise of research and higher teaching in the field of Biotechnology;
- Encourage research in the area of ​​Biotechnology, from a multi and interdisciplinary perspective;
- Produce, disseminate and apply knowledge of Biotechnology in the economic and cultural reality of the Northeast region.

In the long term, it is expected that the Pos-Graduate Nucleus (NPG), as it enables the interaction of national and international teaching and research institutions, it contributes to the process of consolidation of the Northeast Network of Biotechnology and for the effective and systematic development of biotechnology in the country.
